I found this book enlightening. The whole story is about the journey of one 15 year old girl named Melkorka, a princess in mediaeval Ireland. While she and her little sister are kidnapped and and taken onto a slave ship. Melkorka must learn how to survive. Her greatest power is being mute. She takes a vow of silence and will not talk to her captors, though there are many who try to get her to speak. This book was slow in the beginning but became more fast paced when she was on the slave ship. All together an exceptional book.
